Growing up in a large family of five boys and two girls I will always cherish the memories of the family coming togeather to sit and break bread with one another and hear about each others day. My family was never rich in any monitory since but the union we had and the love and trust we had for each other made us rich beyond anything this world could ever provide.

Looking back I have to wonder how my father and mother managed to always have food for us kids. I remember the wonderful food that was always on the table, from the roast cut thinly so it would go around yet served with the love that we all felt from our mother and father it was a feast. To the fresh produced from dad's garden were he would spend his evenings providing for his family after working a long day in the construction business.  I remember a hamburger and potato's with hamburger gravy as one of the staple meals in our family. Potato's were a main part of most meals, and I still love them today as they bring me back to my roots and I once again feel the love which surrounded the table at every meal.

On holidays my father would make his famous red cabbage. I remember how the smell of the sour cabbage filled the home as it cooked on the stove. As a boy I hated it and could hardly stand the smell, a smell I miss every holiday, a void which is now a cherished memory.

I have so many wonderful memories connected with the meals we shared, it was truly a time of comforting each other and reaffirming the strong bond we had as a family.
